Over 60 members of the Europlanet 2024 Research Infrastructure (RI) Consortium gathered in Windsor on the 27th and 28th of February for the formal launch of the project.
Europlanet 2024 RI is a 10 million Euro project, funded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020, that runs from February 2020 to January 2024.
The program for the first day included presentations of the overall project, management structures, transnational access, virtual access, and networking activities that will be carried out. Additional presentations covered diversity, accessibility, and contractual requirements.
The second day included time for more focused workshops on the program groups, work packages, and tasks, as well as an introduction to the evaluation framework for the project and a brainstorming session on metrics and performance indicators.
6 facilities of Korea are planning to participate in the program for promotion of the utilization of research facilities in the area of planet science* within Europe by non-European countries at the Europlanet**. Dr. Yong-Joo Kim and Dr. Gyoung-Soon Choi of the National Research Facility Equipment Promotion Center (hereinafter, NFEC) participated in the kick-off meeting held over the period of February 27~28 and confirmed the preparations to be made by and discussed the schedules for Korea.
*Area of ‘interdisciplinary research’ as an academic area for research studies on planets including earth and planetary systems, etc.

NFEC is pursuing cooperation for the corresponding program and is anticipating the promotion and expansion of the users of domestic research facilities as well as improvement in the establishment and individual operational abilities of domestic research facility communities.
Meanwhile, facilities to be operated by Korea will open before September, 2021.
